As a group we decided that one way we are going to show Christ’s love to others is to have a campaign to raise money for clean drinking water for people who don’t have it.  We are doing this through Charity Water.  Our thinking is this, no one will listen to us about Jesus if they are hungry, thirsty, or broken.  We must take care of people’s physical and emotional needs before they are willing to hear about their spiritual needs.  Our campaign goal is $5000.  A pretty lofty number considering campaigns only last for 3 months.  But $5000 is what is needed to provide a community of 250 with one clean water well.

To be completely honest, while I was setting up the campaign, I was thinking to myself, there is no way the class is going to reach this goal.  But now I’m like why not.  God can do anything.  Why can’t a group of college students raise $5000 in 3 months.  Today was a good day.  We had our first two donations today.  One for $10, and one for $20.  That is $30 that is going to provide clean drinking water to someone who doesn’t have it.

So here is my challenge to the college group.  Prove me wrong, prove that a group of students can really make a difference in peoples lives, even if they are half way around the world.  Raise the $5000, make a liar out of me.

Zombie Rebecca at Trunk-or-Treat

Congrats to Rebecca the winner of the best Awaken Group costume at Trunk or Treat this year.  She won 3 free meals at Chick-fil-a.  Thanks to everyone who came out, it was a fun event and the kids really appreciated it.  Here are a couple more of my favorite pics.

This past Sunday the Awaken Group (college group) at Campus Church decided to help out Charity Water and have a ongoing effort to raise money for Charity Water.  I am extremely excited about this.  Watch the video above for some more information about Charity Water and what they are doing.  I am excited that the Awaken Group is thinking outside of themselves to share Christ’s love to others.

Aside from Charity water, the Awaken Group also has decided to help out with Trunk-or-Treat at Campus this Sunday, then make a shoe box for Operation Christmas Child after that, and finally buy shirts to help people through prison fellowship.

Don’t forget to bring what Charities that you are interested in helping out with as a group.  Part of our mission statement is to Go out and show Christ’s love to others.  One of the ways this is done is by being outside of ourselves as a group.  So wether that is helping out with Trunk n Treat, giving money to a charity or organization, volunteering our time, etc.  We have to do something outside of ourselves as a group.  We must resist the temptation of being a group that is just a social club that doesn’t share Christ’s love to the world.  So come to the group Sunday morning with your ideas, or if you can’t make it, post a comment and I will share it with the group.  GACS HS complex building room t-106 at 9am.  See you then.

TONIGHT is the first Awaken Gathering of the year.  Awaken Gathering is the college age small group for the Awaken Class at Campus Church.  We will be starting a series called GET REAL developing real friendships in a world of facebook, myspace, blogs and twitter.  So come to Caffe Stella at 8pm TONIGHT, seriously you need to come, no excuses, just do it.

So this is a blog for Awaken at Campus Church.  For those of you that don’t know, Awaken is the college group at Campus Church in the greater Atlanta area.  Our mission as a group is:

To AWAKEN the college generation for CHRIST.

We hope to achieve this mission with four simple steps.

*Become Spiritually mature

*To be aware of needs on campuses, communities, and around the world
